I'm impressed with Pink's willingness to tackle some controversial topics in her music and her courage in using her public position to engender conversation.
These ladies say it better than I could. The comments come from women on a listserve in Seattle I am a member of. Read on:
I was almost entirely unfamiliar with Pink until I got the email below from Hannah and read her post on the Stranger blog. I've also copied Ann's reply to Hannah's email (with permission from both) as it made me even more curious to check out Pink. I'd never heard her music other than the two video links I looked at but she's my new hero. Anyone sending those messages to young women is right up there in my book.
HANNAH LEVIN:
I don't know how many of you read the stranger blog on aregular basis, but i thought you might appreciate whati wrote about pink, the new YYYs record and what youngwomen are digesting (pop culture-wise) today. ibasically want to go out and buy pink's record andgive it to every young woman i know. i'm reallylooking forward to writing a longer piece on this andi'd appreciate any thoughts you might want to share.here's a link to the post:

ANN POWERS:
I interviewed Pink for the Blender about two months ago, and though thequestions were somewhat canned (it was for the mag's feature where fans sendin the questions), I walked away wanting to do my next book with her. What Iloved especially was that she really wants to learn. This is an unsungquality in a pop star. Most are autodidacts who could easily avoid everabsorbing a new thought into their highly-toned bodies, but a few use theirgreat resources and considerable leisure time to actually read books andexpand their world views. Pink is one of those. And then she also has thisrad bad-girl side that makes her marry a motocross dude who practicallykilled himself doing a stunt five minutes after they met, and THEN her closefriends are all San Francisco punk dykes, and besides all that she is a North Philly funkateer. Complexity -- not what you usually get in a popstar.
